Community education

Here at Clay Hill School we recognise our commitment to look long-term, beyond an individual’s academic career, and ensure we do all we can to equip our pupils with the skills they need to become valuable members of the community.

We strongly believe that community-based learning is the key to helping the young people at Clay Hill School to reach their potential. It helps pupils to understand how to behave in the ‘real world’ where there is not the same structure and routine as there is in a school setting.

Pupils at Clay Hill School are encouraged to access and get involved with the local community in a number of ways, such as:

  • Visiting swimming baths
  • Outdoor Education activities
  • Joining the library
  • Helping to interview new staff at the school
  • Preparing and serving refreshments during School open days
  • Showing prospective visitors, parents and pupils around the school
  • Helping to host visits from the local dignitaries
  • Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme – developing young people through volunteering and engaging in new and challenging experiences.
