Welcome to Primary

At Sheridan School our vision is to provide knowledge and understanding of a wide range of topics throughout a broad and balanced curriculum.

We want pupils to find subjects of interest to them, be enthusiastic learners with enquiring minds, and have the confidence to ask questions and become independent learners. This is coupled with a strong focus on ‘learning to learn’ and developing resilience. We provide enrichment activities that help foster this ethos of resilience, teamwork and respect.
We want our pupils to ‘dream big’ and have an aspirational mind set, setting goals for themselves throughout their time in primary. We consider it important that all primary pupils are aware of their learning journey and the opportunities that are available to them in the future.

How primary works at Sheridan School

Our primary classrooms are in a self-contained unit with small classes from year 3 to 6.

Year 3 – Owls

Year 4 – Squirrels

Year 5 - Badgers

Year 6 - Rabbits

All of our primary age students have access to break out rooms, purpose-built to cover a range of needs, as well as a safe and well-resourced garden.

In primary, we provide a positive and nurturing environment with an enthusiastic teaching team that puts the child at the centre of everything we do.

We aim to:

  • Close gaps in learning
  • Teach the tools needed to take risks and overcome challenges
  • Inspire a love of learning and understand its importance within later life
  • Build self-esteem and confidence
  • Build respectful and positive relationships with others

Our primary curriculum has been developed to ensure aspects of the National Curriculum are covered and are taught in year group classes. Subject leads have created schemes of work that activate prior knowledge, offer opportunities to apply new taught knowledge and include formative and summative assessments.
