Latest News

Please find below a roundup of the latest news and updates from Queenswood School.

Head Teacher’s notice

Despite these unprecedented times, Queenswood School has remained open albeit with smaller numbers of pupils than usual. We do look forward to getting back in to the normal operation of school life on a daily basis but are fully aware that we have not managed to defeat this killer virus as yet. For the time being, please see the rest of the news to keep you up to speed and should anyone have any further questions for us, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Stay safe and well.

Kind regards,

Robert Coles and the Education Team at Queenswood School

Thank you message

The staff and pupils at Queenswood School would like to thank all of the NHS staff, social care workers and key workers for their dedication and hard work through these challenging times. You are, without a shadow of a doubt, doing a fantastic job and we appreciate your sacrifice and determination to beat COVID-19, thank you!

English

It’s important to remember the hard work and huge efforts our Key stage 4 students were putting in, prior to the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Especially that of our current Year 11 students; who had been conscientiously working towards their GCSE in English Language. Just remember guys – all the efforts you put in will be reflected in your grade this summer!

It’s important for me to also mention those students who (for the first time in Queenswood history!) had taken on the challenge of sitting a GCSE in English Literature, alongside their Language qualification. So to all of you, well done on a phenomenal effort!

A special mention too, to our Year 10 student taking a qualification in English this summer. Having completed all pre-examination units, you too will be on course to achieve your predicted grade this summer!

Maths

Well done to all of the KS4 cohort for their hard work over the first half of the year. You will no doubt do as well as you deserve for the examinations. To all others, please don’t forget that you have access to your MyMaths and if you have forgotten any of your login details, please arrange to contact the school and we can provide you with the correct information.

Yarkhill

The ASC Centre based up at Yarkhill is open to our ASC service users. They have a great mix of staff that are delivering both core and foundation subjects alongside life-skills and social development work. Therapeutic and wellbeing interventions continue to be delivered and enrichment visits have restarted allowing for experiences for service users to have experiences that will build self-esteem and confidence.

Camp Hillcrest

Camp Hillcrest is an external provision that provides our pupils with vocational activities where they have the opportunities to engage in a series of different projects that can aid them with their team building, communication and life skills. These include land management, iron work, music in the sound studio, construction, cooking where they make their own breakfast and lunch, printmaking, horticulture, wood chopping and there is even a skate park and graffiti area. Tom Seaton wishes everyone good health and he and the staff are looking forward to you all returning as they miss your laughter and smiles.

Whilst you have been away

Since the lockdown restrictions, the school has undergone a number of renovations as well as having in commercial cleaners to ensure the environment is hygienic. There is new sports court fencing, a newly fitted commercial kitchen and the school have also adapted some of the offsite meeting space to create an exciting new little centre (Yarkhill Centre) which will be available in September. This base will be able to serve a small number of pupils.
