Robert* talks about his experiences transitioning to North Hill House’s post-16 residence - Here is his story.
“I felt I was ready to go to Acorn House about a year ago so when I moved there in December I asked for a quick transition. I had a few visits and stayed for a meal and I knew I would like it. I went to stay for a night during the last week of term and I liked it so much I asked if I could stay full time straight away, and after talking to staff, that is what I did.
"What I like about Acorn House is the independence and the fact there is more space to cook and make my coffee. My room is very comfortable with a decent size notice board and I have bought a plant to put in it.
"I like the responsibilities and life skills, and enjoy cooking for everyone in the house. I have a friend here and I join in the activities. I also like having a say in the shopping list when choosing the food and drink for the week.
"In the future, I plan to go to college and would like to stay in the residential here because I think there would be less distraction for my studies than at home."
