The Acorns praised for its support of young people...

An Aspris Children's Services care home, The Acorns, in Lancashire has been praised by the independent education watchdog for its “excellent partnership working with young people’s families and partner agencies”.

In its latest report, Ofsted said the home was “good” across the board for providing “consistency and predictability for young people”, “attentive and respectful care”, and “supporting young people to participate in society and overcome barriers to disability”.

A parent said of the home: “They are brilliant; communication is excellent, they couldn’t do anymore."

”Inspectors praised the fact that the “staff fully understand young people’s needs and continually develop and adapt strategies to manage their individual behaviours”.

They added that the level of focus placed on safety and protection was excellent, and inspectors were impressed too with overall staff knowledge of safeguarding procedures. They also singled out the “child centred ethos” of The Acorns as an extremely positive feature.

Joanne Law, home manager, said: “At The Acorns, our focus is simply on assisting the individual to become a young adult. It is excellent to hear that we are regarded as a ‘good’ home, but we hope to improve even further. I am particularly pleased that we have been praised for our efforts in overcoming barriers to disability.”
