North Hill House students display their work in public exhibition...

Art and photography GCSE students from North Hill House school in Frome have proudly displayed their exam and course work in a public exhibition in the town.

North Hill house pupilsPhotographs and art work encompassing many different mediums and materials have been on display at The Round Tower at the Black Swan Arts Centre.

Family, friends and local people visited the gallery to admire the excellent work produced by the 10 young people.

North Hill House is an independent specialist day and residential school for boys and girls aged seven  to 19 years with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders and associated difficulties.

The art teacher said: “The students have created some wonderful pieces of art and the response from visitors to the gallery has been amazing.  I am very proud of them all and they deserve all the accolades their hard work is attracting.

“There are some very talented young people at North Hill House and art also has a positive therapeutic role to play in helping them to cope with their condition.   Many people with autism have an ability to think visually and can turn that ability to good use recording images and visual information, and expressing ideas through drawing or other artistic media. Art is a form of expression that requires little or no verbal interaction which can open doors to communication.”
