The Cloisters

About The Cloisters

Located within a small village in South Yorkshire, The Cloisters supports six young people aged 9-18 years with a range of needs. This includes social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and behaviours that challenge.

The beautiful children’s home occupies a private and quiet setting in a rural location adjacent to farmland, with panoramic views of woodlands and open countryside. The service is also well placed for facilities in the village and nearby towns, as well as being easily accessible from motorways.

Supporting the needs of the young people

The Cloisters offers a safe, homely, nurturing and relaxed, yet structured environment. This encourages the young people to develop their social, educational and practical skills, as well as enjoy an active and fulfilling life in beautiful surroundings.

The majority of the young people will also receive individually tailored education provided by Eastwood Grange School, or a bespoke educational package can be discussed at the referral stage, including post-16 education.

The Cloisters offers a diverse staff team who are all encouraged to bring individual interests and hobbies into the home with a varied skillset, as well as offering 1:1 staffing ratios. The children’s home also provides opportunities for the young people to further develop their life and independence skills, through a range of in-house and planned community-based activities in the evenings and weekends.

Achieving positive outcomes

The Cloisters have worked closely with a young person to successfully reintegrate them into education after three years of non-attendance. This was a success due to the excellent links between the residential and education aspects of care provided to the young people.

Another young person achieved good GCSE results, which enabled him to attend a mainstream college. In addition to this, tailored independence work was provided, allowing this young person to travel independently on a daily basis.
