Education services

Farleigh Further Education College offers a broad range of academic and work-based learning, including work placements, national vocational qualifications and employability skills training.

Individual learning programmes

Farleigh Further Education College provides highly individualised learning packages, which work towards achieving recognised qualifications. We are proud to say that every single student has a timetable which has been individually designed to meet their specific needs, abilities and interests.

An innovative approach to further education

Farleigh Further Education College stands out in its approach to young people’s learning as, often, our students can be following three or four different programmes of study at the same time. In general, our students follow one of three pathways:

Pathway 1: Attending mainstream college

We have a large number of students who are attending mainstream FE colleges in the local community. We currently have young people studying at colleges in a variety of locations including Glastonbury, Bath and Trowbridge as well as an agricultural college near Chippenham. We ensure that students who are attending one of our partner colleges have an individual support package in place at a level that is appropriate for their needs. This will often involve one of our staff members attending college with them.

Pathway 2: Educated on-site

A number of our students are educated on-site at Farleigh Further Education College. We specialise in supporting young people here who have had difficulties in school before coming to us, including  many students who have been absent from school since Year 10. This pathway provides young people with an opportunity to gain GCSEs and often progress on to A-Levels with us. We are able to provide an exceptionally high level of support and individual attention for students, in some cases working with the young person at home in the first instance before gradually introducing them to the college.

Pathway 3: Work-based learning

A significant number of our young people prefer work-based learning over academic study and we provide a route for them too. Farleigh Further Education College has a large workshop near Trowbridge which provides specialist training for students looking to move into careers in construction and enterprise and can also offer a range of NVQ courses.

Supporting successful placements

Our well-trained staff understand the complexities of our students’ conditions and the ways in which they might affect their learning and development. Farleigh Further Education College places a strong focus on providing the support each and every young person needs to reach their potential. Our staff are always on hand to provide support so that students can effectively manage any issues they may have related to anxiety and social behaviour. We are also able to offer additional support for literacy, numeracy and study skills to all students, regardless of their pathway, to help them gain the most from their studies.

“Teaching and learning are lively and stimulating and students work with interest and enjoyment.”
