Progress School is a highly specialist school for children and young people with autism and/or complex communication, learning and behaviour needs. Our staff are experts in their field and have a range of education, care, clinical and therapeutic backgrounds, ensuring that the holistic needs of our students are well met.
Teaching staff and support staff
The school has three specialist teachers. In addition to teachers, we have a large team of teaching assistants, qualified to Level 3 or above, who work alongside young people in the classroom and in the community. Each student benefits from the support of one or two members of staff to facilitate learning. We also have an in-house multidisciplinary team, comprising of a behaviour analyst, nurse, speech and language therapist and occupational therapist.
Training
At Progress School, all staff at all levels complete a week long induction programme which includes training in safeguarding children and young people, intermediate and advanced Team Teach, supporting learners on the autism spectrum - approaches and interventions, supporting and developing communication, managing sensory needs and emergency first aid.
All staff members complete annual refreshers of all face-to-face courses and a cycle of online training throughout their employment with us, this helps to keep their knowledge and understanding current and relevant. We also provide ongoing specialist training in interventions used to support students in school.
