Involving young people in the care they receive
Talocher Schools believes in involving young people in the care that they receive so that our students leave here, knowing their thoughts and opinions are valued. We provide regular opportunities for students to feedback their views and ideas through house meetings and via their key worker. Each residential student is assigned their own dedicated key worker with whom they can discuss any issues they may have.
A hidden curriculum
Staff in our residential homes develop personalised social programmes for each of our students. We call this a hidden curriculum and it is designed to develop the young person’s social skills as well as to give them the opportunity to practice vital independence skills in a real life setting. Talocher works closely with our young people to develop their abilities in a range of areas, including:
- Budgeting
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Personal hygiene
A varied activities programme
We actively encourage all our residential pupils to:
- Join local clubs
- Take part in vocational courses
- Take trips to nearby places of interest
