Therapeutic Support

Therapy is integrated into the education and support that we provide at Quay View School, so it is part of every school day for our students and plays a crucial role here. Through our therapeutic services we support each child and young person to develop their social and independence skills, enabling them to achieve academically while growing as a person. Every student receives a personalised package of therapy, tailored to meet their individual needs.

The Wellbeing Team has extensive experience of successfully supporting young people with autism and SEMH difficulties to address the challenges that they face and learn strategies for managing their emotions and mental health going forward. Our support empowers students to gain control of their lives and to look to the future with hope and optimism.

“Pupils receive a wide range of well-considered therapies and nurture provision. These support pupils’ emotional needs effectively.”

Quay View School Ofsted Report

Students can access services including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, counselling and psychology services. In addition to being integrated into daily teaching and support, therapy is delivered in our purpose built and fully equipped wellbeing hub.

Quay View School is a trauma informed school, which means that collectively we support children and teenagers who suffer with trauma or mental health problems, and whose troubled behaviour acts as a barrier to learning. Our Wellbeing Team work with each student to identify their barriers and to develop strategies for overcoming these. They work closely with pastoral support and teaching staff to embed the therapeutic approaches across the school. The ‘Thrive’ Approach for supporting wellbeing and developing resilience is followed by the school and the Wellbeing Team includes a ‘Thrive’ practitioner.

Our highly effective support approaches are evidence-based and informed by best practice in education. Our Wellbeing Team continually update their knowledge with training and use reflective workshops to monitor and assess performance and plan for the future.

“Pupils receive a wide range of therapies, such as art, equine, and speech and language therapy. These approaches are well established. Pupils describe how they value these sessions because they support their emotional and communication needs well.”
